The ancient god Mithras was of Persian/Zoroastrian origin, a protector of truth and a god of illumination who was later incorporated into a mystery cult in ancient Rome. It is thought that beeswax candles first made an appearance in the west during Roman Mithraic mystery rituals.
All of Mithras Candles are hand-poured, hand-dripped and finished with care in a candle lair in East Falls, Philadelphia. From locally-sourced beeswax down to the 100% cotton, square-braid wicks, Mithras uses only the highest-quality materials to make each candle a joy to burn.
Mithras Candle makes a true effort to uphold an ethical responsibility with these commitments:
-
Use only locally-sourced beeswax from family farms whenever possible
-
Support local beekeepers and their hives
-
Collaborate on projects related to light, conservation and candle culture
-
Educate consumers on the aesthetic and health benefits of beeswax candles
-
Shine a warm and golden light into the darkness by making regular donations in support of social and environmental justice
